Fernanda teaches with love

Fernanda Usina
Dear Pamela, Jodie, Douglas, Laurent, Catherine, UBS, Grace, Julia, Ted Wells, Anupama, Howard, James and Julie, James, Jeffrey, Kandace, Molly, and Susan,

Fernanda is 30 years old, yet has been teaching at CENIT for nearly 11 years.  She teaches sewing and design classes to the girls in CENIT’s vocational high school.  In addition to more general education courses such as math and writing, the girls at CENIT’s high school learn how to design clothing, prepare and sew pieces, and tailor clothing. These skills prepare them for jobs upon graduation, which is the first step toward economic self sufficiency.

Fernanda loves teaching at CENIT, and has stayed so long because she loves the students so much. She easily relates to the students, and many of them consider her to be a close friend and maternal figure because of the advice and patience she also gives them.

Aside from class material, Fernanda makes an effort to also help her students navigate the complicated social scene that is adolescence.  Thanks to the generosity of many donors, Fernanda will keep teaching at CENIT, and continue to touch the lives of the girls she works with.
